I love this crew! The joy, patience, and rigor they possess is phenomenal to see in action. I am currently at the EL National Conference with Ms. B thinking about my kids and how enjoyable it was to see them work at our learning target. We always unpack the learning target and it is amazing to listen to the knowledge of these young people and what they know or don’t know about certain words. They lift each other up and help each other out when words are complex. Miss Tasha loves to do pumpkin and fall activities during the month of October. What better way to leave before a national conference and do a pumpkin exploration with my kiddos. Enjoy the observations these kids made. Aren’t they so adorable? We made predictions whether the pumpkins would sink or float. We weighed and measured

I can't believe it's October. We are mid-way thru our first expedition about Tools and Work and how tools make our lives easier. The kiddos will create a MAGNIFICENT thing that is important to them that can be used in our classroom. This tool will be used throughout the year and will support our goals about classroom culture, crew, and overall how we view/use collaboration everyday. Students are learning. Students are having fun. And Miss Tasha is getting to play, learn, and grow too! One image taken every hour, on the tenth day of each month. How awesome is it that we get to start ten on the tenth again this year on the tenth month of the year... 7:30 AM Play morning music, write morning message, and check our schedule (and yes morning is spelt wrong on purpose) 9:00 AM Art with Ms. S--reading the learning targets and making a plan for the day 10:00 AM Working on products (Art in Action!) 11:15 AM Working on the letter K...whatever is most comfortable for you buddy :) 1:20 PM LABS IN ACTION! We are transitioning to creating our final product, the most MAGNIFICENT thing (yes, say it loud and proud), students are still exploring materials, looking at pictures to recreate them 2:20 PM What forty minutes of lab creation looks like 4:00 PM Ready to call it a day! 6:00 PM Letter writing before Mr. Kainoa leaves for a work trip. This is a habit for every work trip yet! 8:00 PM **permission to post Mr. Kainoa and I LOVE Kizuki's 10:00 PM Home, in bed, to read my new non-educational book Ten on the tenth is a quick peak into a day with Miss Tasha...it has definitely been a busy week, even though it was two and a half days because of conferences. But, I am so glad to be working with these birdies and can't wait to see where we end up. Until our next post of MAGNIFICENT things happening in First Grade.... Have a wonderful week XOXO Miss Tasha The First Grade Flock (FGF) has been busy the past two weeks in labs--Create, Engineer, Explore, and Imagine. With the generous donations from our donors choose projects and our crew parents, students are creating some MAGNIFICENT things. Each lab is designed to foster innovation, creativity, and imaginative play. All these things incorporated into an hour of day has allowed students to collaborate, persevere, and use literacy to make real world connections. This month we will finish our first expedition of Tools and Work, and how tools make our lives easier. At the end of this module, students will create their own tool they feel is important for the classroom or their most magnificent thing. With the creativity Labs encourages, it is amazing to see students practice high-quality work, speak with intention and respect in the classroom, and foster a collaborative classroom. Thank you to Ms. T for all the wonderful pictures. Always looking forward to creating and learning with these friends XOXO Miss Tasha |
